New Orleans Cemetary

NOLA Historical Cemetary
Originally uploaded by nieve44.
Given the Disaster that has happened from the hurricane, I went back to my files and came up with this photo. I was in New Orleans last August. The day before we left we decided to take a trolley tour to the Historical Cemetary. I took this photo as at the time I found it surreal that a lone chair sat in front of this masoleum and even more sureal that it was backless.
My heart is heavy with the news from New Orleans. Now comes word that Houston will assist some of the evacuees from the Superdome as they will now be housed in the Astrodome. There has been a call for volunteers to help out and I've added my name to the list. Tonight, I'm paying my bills and made out a check to the American Red Cross. A call to all other bloggers to do the same as the Hurricane disaster will affect us all in one way or another.

O.S.I.M...

We've all heard of TGIF
and smile when these words come to mind.
I just heard this last night and didn't know what it meant
but I can assure you it would bring a frown
after you laugh at what it means.

Glamourized!

Glamourized!

Given my last photo, I decided it was time to post a current photo. So now, instead of Half a Luz, it's a complete Luz. I'm not one for self pics but it had been five years since I've taken a professional shot so I figured I was due for one. Also, another birthday is around the corner and since I'm supposed to be at the cusp of my midlife crisis I wanted to get a photo in before the insanity closes in. Honestly, while my heart may be 40+ something--my soul is 30! :-)

Half a Luz

What a hat!

Ok, since it's been a year that I've had my blog, I thought it was time for a new photo. Yeah, I know it's doesn't show my face but that will come later. This was taken last Saturday at a Houston Flickr meetup. Met some great fellow Flickrs and spent the better part of the afternoon taking pictures around the museum district here in Houston. There are some serious photographers out there and here I came along with my little Fuji camera but hey we still took some great pics.

...as I near the first year of my blog, I looked back at the Fanmencos & bloggers who have visited my blog. A special thanks to Boris as he was my first visitor that I know of. I was at a Houston Flickr meeting yesterday and we were asked how we were introduced to Flickr. Of course, I had to go back to where it all started. :-) There were other visitors as well such as Danny, Yumiko, The Lone Pen, MEC, and Mario just to name a few. If I've left anyone out...my apologies. Thanks for being a part of this wonderful experience.

Reflections on Beer
Originally uploaded by mRio.

Not much to blog as I have been busy with work and the next two weeks will be even busier. Although, a very important date is coming up for me next week of which I'll blog later...although Boris might be able to guess what it is. ;-)

Thank goodness the weekend is here. Folks from Houston Flickr are gathering for lunch tomorrow and then a stroll around the museum district followed by a downtown trek to catch the baseball game. Thus, since it's the weekend I thought I would borrow Mario's photo-"Reflections on Beer" and I'm sure he won't mind since it was inspired by me/Nieve44. So here's to the weekend and a cold one whether it be Rolling Rock, Dos Equis, Bud Light or Miller Light. I look forward to some reflection as I sip my beer this weekend. Salud/Cheers!

So, where do you stash yours? Mine, go in my piggybank next to my computer. He's getting pretty heavy these days as for the past three years, I've been saving all my loose change & bills for a rainy day. Which rainy day you might ask? Well for January 13, 2007!!! Lord willing, my parents will celebrate 50 years of marriage and for that occasion I will break the bank open which will hopefully provide a little extra spending $$ for them when my brother and I send them off on a little trip somewhere.

Btw, I borrowed the great pic and words (italics) from Portseye who has a great flickr page @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/pjphotos/. Thanks. ;-)

April, Come She Will

April, Come She Will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain:
May, she will stay.
Resting in my arms again.
June, she'll change her tune,
In restless walks, she'll prowl the night,
July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight.
August, die she must
September I'll remember
the autumn winds blow chilly and cold...
Ottmar blogged about owning a turntable and the fact that he still plays an LP every now and then. Tonight, I went into my closet and randomly grabbed an LP. As I did, a smile came on my face remembering this LP and the many times I played it. The name of the LP is Simon and Garfunkel: The Concert in Central Park. I"m off to go and enjoy the rest of this LP and enjoy a nice cold one too.
Music: Simon and Garfunkel
Mood: Merry
Spirits: Dos Equis XX
