Close Call
My parents house/garage.
My parents had experienced some hairy moments late in the evening on Thursday 1/13/05. They were awakened by what they thought was gun fire and looked out the window only to find flames shooting out of the neighbors garage. While it was a close call...my parents house was not damaged although the back shed was cinged a bit as was the grass and fence. Unfortunately, the neighbors garage and apartment garage were destroyed. Fortunately, those items can be replaced but the loss of life cannot and thankfully, no one was hurt. The incident made the television news on Friday morning. A reminder to us all that danger is only a heartbeat away.

Good that they are safe. Isn't it something that should make us think about it: we are all aware of how close danger, threats and death are but somehow we tend to ignore it. Then something happens - like this fire now or the possible death of my Grandma - and we stumble into deep thinking. Yet the old Romans said "Memento mori", do we need to be even more aware of it?
