Why bandaid? What are band-aids for? For protection and to allow a wound to heal! The truth is that, "with some wounds you have to rip the bandaid and let the wound breathe".
Now, the linguist in me would say, that's an example of a tradename becoming a normal word, like hoover for vaccuum cleaner in the UK - where, however, the Band-Aid brand was never marketed under that name, so we know band aids as "plasters"! Other than that, it was also a brilliant play on words by Bob Geldoff and friends. The self-help junkie in me, on the other hand, would agree that it is necessary to let some wounds breathe instead of "protecting" them.
