8 am - Oh boy! Dog food! My favorite!

Noon - Oh boy! The yard! My favorite!

7 pm - Oh boy! Welcome home Dad! My favorite!
8 pm - Oh boy! Dog food! My favorite!
9 pm - Oh boy! Tummy rubs on the couch! My favorite!
11 pm - Oh boy! Sleeping in my people's bed! My favorite!

A cat's diary:
Day 183 of my captivity. My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded - must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair - must try this on their bed. Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan. There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.

I love culture and all things Native American and that which is sacred...especially Mother Earth and as I was browsing photos by Wendy, I happened to be listening to the above song! Next week, I'm going to Seattle and looking forward to visiting and taking in some of the sights such at the totem poles and masks of tribes native to the Northwest.

Song for the Journey

Here's a song for the journey
As we draw near the line
Though our eyes bear a tear
As we wave our goodbye
May the clouds part before you
May the stars kiss your eyes

There are days made for wonder
and laughter and wine
May your dreams take you places
Through rivers that wind
If we don't count our blessings
We're wasting our time

Heaven knows where the road falls before me
May the angels hold those left behind
When I dream of the treasures
and pleasures we find
There are many and many were mine

When your heart it grows weary
And you can't face the night
I will give you my shoulder
For the weight on your mind
If we don't count our blessings
We're wasting our time
Here's a song for the journey tonight

Lyrics by Tish Hinojosa
There have been many treasures and pleasures
this past week and I wanted to count my blessings
and sing this song for the journey
and may your journey be as blessed as mine.

A Place in the World

What I'm looking for, after all this time
Keeps me moving forward, trying to find it
Since I learned to walk all I've done is run
Ready, on my mark, doesn't everyone
Need a place in the world
Could be right before your very eyes
Just beyond a door that's open wide
Could be far away or in your own backyard
There are those who say, you can look too hard
For your place in the world
Takes some of us a little longer
A few false starts gonna make you stronger
When I'm sure I've finally found it
Gonna wrap these arms all around it
Could be one more mile, or just one step back
In a lovers smile, down a darkened path
Friends will take our side, enemies will curse us
But to be alive is to know your purpose
It's your place in the world
~~~~~~~
A beautiful song by the great Mary Chapin-Carpenter and these words seems to fit the mood for the evening. About a year ago, I thought I had found my place in the world (far away) and I was all set to walk down that path but then an unexpected detour (my own backyard) was thrown my way. Initially, I was frustated and excited at the same time. The short detour has been full of twists and turns but also ironic and uncanny. I'm a creature of habit and when someone moves my cheese (just like that book) I get anxious and scared. The light at the end of the new path was so bright and my first reaction was to turn out the lights. Regretably, it's been difficult to find the light switch again in the darkness but a few false starts have made me stronger. But like those characters in the book, I have to find my own way down my own darkened path and into my place in the world...and when I do, I hope that door is still opened wide. When I'm sure I finally found it, I'm gonna wrap my arms around it!
Hands that Can/Genius
Hands that Can!
Originally uploaded by nieve44.
My friend figured out this board game @ Cracker Barrel in two tries. It always frustrates the heck out of me! He never ceases to amaze me! The board reads on the back that if you figure out the game by only ending up with 1 peg, you are a genius! Yesterday, I helped him & his wife put the rest of this fence together. Quite a task that I cannot even begin to imagine where to start. Oh, and did I mention that both he and his wife are blind! See couple here.
He is completely blind while his wife has limited vision and just graduated from college with honors AND has been accepted into Graduate school! In the years that I have known these two, I have never heard them complain about their disability, instead they re-define the word and amaze me and everyone that meets them with their ability!
Band-aid
Word of the day: Band-aid
Why bandaid? What are band-aids for? For protection and to allow a wound to heal! The truth is that, "with some wounds you have to rip the bandaid and let the wound breathe".
Circle of Life
Circle of Life
Originally uploaded by nieve44.
A ferris wheel is one big circle and so is life when you think about it. Life has its ups and downs and can go around in endless circles. It's great to be at the top looking down sometimes but then again it can be so scary. I stood before this ferris wheel and looked up and it took my breath away. It was beckoning me to come and stand at its footstep and smiled at me with its bright lights.
Beautiful Racket
Mood: Laughing...listening to my dog snoring.
***********
So your day begins like this
Wondering what might have been
Old regrets and chances missed
Borne away on some lambent wind
The job's ok, but it doesn't inspire
Thoughts of leaving it all behind
You used to have dreams of setting the world on fire
All you want now is peace of mind
You do your dreaming in traffic jams
You do your running in shopping malls
You do your breathing the best you can
Between car pools and cell phone calls
Who cares, you'll never live in Paris
So what, you'll never travel by Lear
How do some of us learn what matters
While others never get to hear
such a beautiful racket, it whispers and roars
The bitter and sweet, between the truces and the wars
The noise and the quiet, the courage and the fear
And all of the wisdom between a smile and a tear
hold on, hold on...
***********
Now I'm off to meditate and find some peace of mind in between the beautiful racket of trains, car alarms, and my chihuahua snoring. BTW, I have been to Paris, never travelled by Lear--yet! I loathe shopping malls! I do my running chasing after my dog. My job does inspire! Yes, a few regrets and lots of chances missed but I don't do my breathing between car pools and cell phone calls. I do my dreaming by candlelight, reading, music, blogging, and writing in my moleskine. At 46, I have finally realized what matters and I consider myself blessed.
Eat your heart out Janet Jackson!
Crazy dream last night....I was at some function wearing a nice black dress with straps and the straps on my right shoulder got caught on something and before I knew it I had a wardrobe malfunction. I made a beeline for the bathroom and then I woke up! Thankfully, it was only a dream! Must be some stupid post- superbowl hype about the boring Stones half-time show. Not that I wanted Janet back on stage but I much would have preferred U2 or Coldplay. Think next year, I'll do what Vicks did! :-)
