For Better of Worse!

You have two choices in life:

You can stay single and be miserable,

or get married and wish you were dead.

~~~~~~~~~
At a cocktail party, one woman said to another,
'Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?
''Yes, I am. I married the wrong man.'
~~~~~

A lady inserted an ad in the classifieds: 'Husband Wanted'.
Next day she received a hundred letters.
They all said the same thing: 'You can have mine.'
~~~~~~~
When a woman steals your husband,
there is no better revenge than to let her keep him.
~~~~~~~~
A woman is incomplete until she is married.
Then she is finished .
~~~~~~~
A little boy asked his father,
'Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?
'Father replied, 'I don't know son, I'm still paying.'
~~~~~~~~~~~
Then there was a woman who said,
'I never knew what real happiness was until I got married,
by then, it was too late.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want your spouse to listen
and pay strict attention to every word you say --
talk in your sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just think, if it weren't for marriage,
men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First guy says, 'My wife's an angel!'
Second guy remarks, 'You're lucky, mine's still alive.'
~~~~~~~~~~~
'A Woman's Prayer:
Dear Lord, I pray for: Wisdom to understand a man,
to Love and to forgive him, and for Patience for his moods.
Lord, if I pray for Strength I'll just beat him to death'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND NOW FOR THE FAVORITE!!!
Husband and wife are waiting at the bus stop with their nine children. A blind man joins them after a few minutes. When the bus arrives, they find it overloaded and only the wife and the nine kids are able to fit onto the bus. So the husband and the blind man decide to walk. After a while, the husband gets irritated by the ticking of the stick of the blind man as he taps it on the sidewalk, and says to him, 'Why don't you put a piece of rubber at the end of your stick? That ticking sound is driving me crazy.' The blind man replies, 'If you had put a rubber at the end of YOUR stick, we'd be riding the bus, so shut the hell up.'

Years ago I used to work a part-time job at the old Astrodome and that's how I got hooked on Strait's music. I've been a fan ever since. 56 never looked so good! ;-) Thanks to Mario for wonderful photo and memory of George when we went to rodeo last year.

Alice in Wonderland

Originally uploaded by :Eureka:
Bravo Erika for such a nice photo and the fantasy! Sometimes, I do feel like Alice in Wonderland when I pull up to the house. It's the little things that make it special, like fresh cut grass, cutting a magnolia flower from my tree and taking it to the office. The morning sunlight in my room--especially on a Saturday when I don't have to rush off somewhere. The lovely walks around the neighborhood and the enchanting bike rides making new discoveries on every turn of another street. Though, I"ve only been here just under two months in some ways it feels longer. Sometimes, I pinch myself just to make sure I'm not dreaming! Although at times the nightmares can be scary like last week with the work in the attic which is still a work in progress and I have to remember to be patient, sit back and enjoy! Even the unwanted little bumps and bruises. Yes, I have been given much and I am so grateful! Alice does live here!

RETARDED GRANDPARENTS

...from an email I received... and this was actually reported by a teacher

After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school. One child wrote the following: We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. They usedto live in a big brick house but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida .

Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass. They
ride around on their bicycles and wear name tags because they don't know who
they are anymore. They go to a building called a wreck center, but they must have got it fixed
because it is all okay now, they do exercises there, but they don't do them
very well. There is a swimming pool too, but they all jump up and down in it with hats on. At their gate, there is a doll house with a little old man sitting in it. He watches
all day so nobody can escape. Sometimes they sneak out, and go cruising in
their golf carts. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And, they eat the same
thing every night --- early birds. Some of the people can't get out past the man
in the doll house. The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked
center for pot luck. My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too. When I earn my
retardment, I want to be the man in the doll house. Then I will let people out,
so they can visit their grandchildren. .....

PRICELESS!

Tequila & Salt

...from an email I got today.

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where one could read it everyday. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.
1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. You are special and unique.
8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
10. When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.
11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.
And always remember....when life hands you Lemons, ask for tequila and salt, and call me over! ;-)

....actually with lemons I prefer Vodka for lemon drop shots!

Princess of Light

I went in for a much needed Reiki massage and afterwards walked out a Princess of Light. About 30 minutes into the session this immense white light appeared above me. It was angelic and so divine that I was overtaken with emotion for the rest of the session. I had not seen such a bright light in awhile. I soo wanted to follow that light but knew that it was only gracing me with its powerful presence for just that moment in time.

4/24/08 Update: The word balance has creeped into the word of the day again as I read an excerpt from Daily Om... As we build a relationship with our power, and follow it, we begin to see that we don’t always have to do what we’re being asked to do by others, and we don’t have to jump on every trend. All we have to do is have the confidence to listen to our own voice and let it guide us as we make our own decisions in life and remember the necessity for balance.
I believe that light I saw on Tuesday was my inner power intertwined with a higher power lifting me out of my body for but a moment. It served as a guide to nurture my soul towards my renewed path of balance that is lacking and surely needed in the coming days and months ahead.

March Madness

Basking
Originally uploaded by Nieve44/La Luz
Was there a month of March?! The month was such a blur, which began with Spring Break and much anticipation. Anticipation of packing, moving and settling into a house. A house that I had been trying to purchase since last summer! Yes, last summer! After much negotiating the winds of change finally blew my way and everything fell into place with the signing of the papers on March 14th. Keys were given to me but still it didn't feel like my house. We moved the following day and the day after that and the day after that! Additionally, I had my apartment to clean up and totally vacate and this took longer than I expected. I just dropped the keys into the night deposit box. I debated on whether to photograph the empty apartment before closing the door for the last time but in the end I fully wanted to close that chapter of my life and didn't need a photograph from my past.
After having been in the house for more than two weeks, I realize that it's going to take me longer than I anticipated to get settlled in. My kitchen is about 85% done. Just need to get a few things taken care of such as a breakfast bar in which to have something to eat off of till I get a dining table.
Occasionally, I still confused and will walk into the bathroom thinking that I'm walking into the kitchen. Just last night Chulo did the same thing! Yes, he's still confused as are the parakeets. I've yet to set up any of the TV's which is relatively un-important since I didn't transfer the cable over to the new place. However, my niece and I decided that one night a week would be a "movie night". Instead of purchasing DVD's we'll be heading to the local library. Tonight, I hope to get the bike out and take a ride around my new neighborhood and wave to the neighbors! :-)

He did it!

Grad Man
Originally uploaded by Nieve44/La Luz
She did it! In my line of work, I enjoy the spring semester as students prepare for graduation in May. Also, I get visits from former students who have finished their Bachelor's such as a visit from Mr. G. Mr. G has come a long way since he first came through my doors. As an educator you plant seeds and you may not always see them grow but this one sure did! Even more special that he wanted to make it a point to come back and thank me for the support as he felt he wouldn't have made it this far without someone believing in him. More importantly, he wants to put his wife through college for her degree and thus more seeds that grow and multiply.

FINALLY!

FINALLY!
Originally uploaded by Nieve44/La Luz

It happened! I signed on Friday and will be moving today! It's very early in the morning and I am tired and sleep will be a luxury as the movers (my brother & family) will be here around 9:00 a.m. Thus, I'll be out of commission for a few days. My thanks to my parents who helped make my dream a reality. We both shed some tears yesterday when I came home with the keys. BTW, poor Chulo is freaking out from all this packing as he's thinking I am leaving him. I finally pulled out his lil red bag and he was so happy. He's figured out that he's coming as well! ;-)

Dan's Joke

Dan's Little Joke...

Did you know that Dan played all the instruments on the 2003 CD "Full Circle"?"Wait," you say, "I have that CD and there's a list of musicians".The musicians:Roland Laboite - drums, percussionDonny Trout - bassSven Birkebeiner - keyboards,Lee Mealone - congas, percussion

Take a moment, can you figure any of them out on your own?

Answers, below....

Roland Laboite - drums, percussion*The drum machine (also known as a "drum box", or "beat box") Dan programmed for the CD was made by Roland Corporation.

Laboite is French for "box".
Donny Trout - bass*Trout.
Bass.Sven Birkebeiner - keyboards*Skiers call their skis "boards". The Birkebeiner is a Nordic cross country ski race honoring a historic Norwegian event. In 1206, two warrior soldiers, called "Birkebeiners" because of the birch-bark leggings they wore, skied infant Prince Haakon to safety during the Norwegian civil war. Prince Haakon subsequently became King of Norway, and the Birkebeiner soldiers became a Norwegian symbol of courage, perseverance and character in the face of adversity.
Lee Mealone - congas, percussion* Le' me alone, ay....

I just love this man's music. Still feeling his loss but his music will live on. I don't own this CD but I plan on getting it soon from Amazon as all proceeds will go to the foundation that was created in Dan's name. Thanks to his wife Jean for sharing Dan's joke.

Girls Like Me

Shootout!

You probably know a girl like me.
We live alone and in our heads
We eat standing up or in our beds
Guilt and fear merge easily
In the quiet souls of girls like me
And loneliness is like a cold,
Common and no cure we’re told
We take to bed per chance to dream
In the blue light of the TV screen.
Girls like me like summer light
And cold beer on a summer night
And boys who aren’t afraid of what they see
Inside the eyes of girls like me
And hopefulness is like a drug
It makes a girl believe in love
And if somehow you love us back
We think there’s something wrong with that
Girls like me aren’t hard to trust
Your deepest secret’s safe with us
And when it’s time to set you free
You can always count on girls like me
It’s good to know a girl like me
You used to love a girl like me

LITTLE BOYS
GOTTA LOVE 'EM

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter. The man at the counter asked the older boy, "Son, how old are you?" "Eight," the boy replied. The man continued, "Do you know what these are used for?" The boy replied, "Not exactly, but they aren't for me. They're for him. He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. Right now, he can't do either one."
